Why is this news?
At present, in the Netherlands, all parts of Europe are stabbed by the corona vaccine. Maybe your grandfather and grandmother have their turn. These vaccines come from various pharmaceutical factories, and you have undoubtedly heard of their names: Pfizer, Moderna, Janssen and AstraZeneca. Before the vaccine is distributed to various countries, extensive testing is required to see if it is safe and if there are any side effects.
In addition to this happening in the pharmaceutical factory itself, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) is also conducting research in Europe. They determined whether medicines in all EU countries/regions are sufficiently safe. This applies to almost all vaccines, but the results of using AstraZeneca are different. Countries report that a small number of people who have just received the vaccine are seriously ill and even die. EMA’s research now shows that this may be caused by the vaccine.
What happened to the sick person?
So far, in the Netherlands, about 400,000 Dutch people have been vaccinated with AstraZeneca. For example, this mainly involves people between 60 and 64 years old, medical staff and disabled or obese patients. Eight of them developed thrombosis after the injection.
To understand exactly what this is, you first need to take a small biology class. Thrombosis doctor Saskia Middelkoop explains to you: “Your blood is made up of platelets. Together, these platelets form a system in your body that ensures you don’t lose too much blood when you are injured. Your body needs it too much. For example, If you have a bruise, platelets will form a blood clot or a blood clot in that place, and that place will not flow properly.”
Thrombosis is very common and a side effect of other vaccines. But for people who got sick from the AstraZeneca shooting, what happened is very rare. Middelkoop said: “The blood clot ends up in their lungs or brain, and sometimes even in their liver or intestines. In these very dangerous places, this blood clot has immediate and major consequences.”
However, she said, it is important not to be too scared of it. “The consequences are very serious, but the chance of this happening to you is also very small. The risk of getting corona is much higher, so the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the benefits.”
Who found what?
Despite the results of the new study, the European Medicines Agency is actually the same as Middelkoop said. They believe that the advantages of AstraZeneca vaccine outweigh the disadvantages, so it is necessary to use perforation technology. They do believe that people who take the vaccine should be warned of the risks in advance.
At the same time, the general practitioner said that they were tied, but had questions about the vaccine. There are actually two categories: people who are concerned and people who no longer need vaccines. It is not yet their turn to take over the vaccine from another group of people.
On social media, AstraZeneca’s risks are often compared with contraceptives. If taken, there is a risk of thrombosis. In fact, according to a study by the University of Leuven, among 100,000 women taking contraceptives, 500 to 700 have symptoms of thrombosis. Eight out of a population of 400,000 suffer from this disease, so the number is small.
The famous virologist Marion Koopmans also responded to the vaccine fuss. According to her, the risk of dying from this vaccine is as high as the risk of dying from a dog attack or lightning strike.
What should we do now?
The outgoing Minister of Health Hugo de Jonge (Hugo de Jonge) is now working with the Dutch Health Commission to study the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine. In the UK, it has been decided not to provide AstraZeneca to people under 30. In Italy and Spain, this applies to people under 60.
If the Netherlands decides to do this, it will have a big blow to corona control. We have ordered 11.7 million doses of this vaccine. After the relaxation of the corona measures, people are paying more and more attention to the number of people who have been vaccinated.
As a professor, Daniëlle Timmermans conducted research on how to best talk about government health risks and their impact on people. She predicted that if the Netherlands continues to use the AstraZeneca vaccine, people’s confidence will be hit.
“By constantly talking about risks, AstraZeneca’s image as a poor-quality vaccine still exists. But I want to emphasize that I noticed that a large number of people, actually the largest group, still indicate that they want this vaccine.” Very small risk. You can help smaller groups who do have questions by taking them seriously and providing them with honest information. If this is really a barrier between vaccination or not, I will even provide them with another vaccine. This is a tough job, but in the end you want as many people as possible to be pierced. Of course, the final choice depends on everyone. “
