The swimming pool in Manresi, Spain is officially named after one of the best water polo players in history, Manuel Estiarte (60 years old). Estiate is the only water polo player to have participated in six Olympics (1980-2000). He was born in Manresa and started his career at the local club Minorisa.
Last year, the Manresa City Council accepted Minorisa’s proposal to rename the swimming pool. The official swimming pool renaming ceremony was held on Wednesday, when a friendly match between the Catalan and American women’s teams took place. The Americans, who are preparing for the FINA World League to be held in Athens next week, won 13:12.
There were many guests at the ceremony. One of them has attracted widespread attention from local media and fans. Manchester City Football Club coach Guardiola attended the game.
The Manchester City coach came to Manres for good reasons. Guardiola and Estiate have been friends for a long time. Estiate is currently a member of Guardiola’s coaching staff at Manchester City. Estiat is also an assistant to Guardiola in Barcelona and Bayern in Munich.
