ŠIBENIK managed to stay in HNL after beating Istria 1-0 at home in the 33rd round, a match marked by two VAR decisions (a total of 10 minutes).
The only goal of the game was Suad Sahiti’s goal in the 54th minute. It turns out that with this goal, he left his team to win the championship.
However, VAR also checked the goal for 3 minutes because referee FranJović was offside first.
The real drama happened in the fifth minute of overtime, when Batarello knocked out Vic and the referee pointed out the penalty spot. The referee ruled out Sibenik’s defender, but then VAR was activated and VAR checked whether it was a hinterland before being sentenced.
The players of Istria put the ball on the penalty spot and waited for the decision. The home team players were scared. Time passed, and VAR tried to find the answer.
The uncertainty lasted for up to seven minutes, during which the players gradually calmed down and finally decided before the penalty kick was awarded in the backcourt. As a result, both the fine and the red card were annulled, and Sibenik could celebrate the rest.
