On the second day after the 12 largest clubs in Europe announced the establishment of the new Super League, the European Union confirmed the changes in the UEFA Champions League competition system.
Starting from the 2024/2025 season. In the UEFA Champions League, there will be 36 teams participating instead of the previous 32. No longer form a team as before, but all clubs will play in the same league, and each team will play ten games against ten different opponents, five of which will be at home and five will be outside.
The eight best clubs will enter the 16th round, and the 9th to 24th clubs will compete for the remaining 8 seats in the 16th round in two games.
Among these 36 clubs, 32 clubs will directly enter the UEFA Champions League based on their position in the domestic championship, and the remaining 4 seats will be filled in the future. The third-ranked team will win the national championship. The team is ranked fifth in the Uefa rankings, currently in France, and there is still some time to go. Coming from a country that has no determined position in the Champions League, the champion with the highest club coefficient will get a place. This is likely to be Dynamo. The remaining two positions will be awarded to clubs that have not qualified for the Champions League in the past five seasons, but belong to the Europa League or Conference League with the highest odds.
All matches up to the final will continue from Tuesday to Thursday in the middle of the week, and the group matches will be held from September to January. In the first phase, 18 games will be played every day, instead of the previous 16 games, and now a total of 180 games will be played instead of 96 games. In the current format, the UEFA Champions League will play 125 games, while in the new league there will be 225 games (180 games in the first stage, 16 in the play-offs, and 29 in the knockout stage). To win the UEFA Champions League, you must play at least 17 games, maybe 19 games. So far, you have to participate in 13 games.
A similar situation occurs in both the Europa League and the Conference League. Although it has not been precisely defined by which system, there are likely to be 36 clubs in these games. It is almost certain that the Europa League will follow a similar system, except that the club will play eight games in the group stage and six games in the conference league, but this situation may change.
