US President Joe Biden finally lifted the US ban on TikTok and WeChat. Biden signed an executive order on Wednesday to repeal the measures taken by former President Trump.
Biden does have order Conduct a broader investigation of (Chinese) applications that may pose a risk to U.S. national security. The U.S. Department of Commerce is responsible for this task.
Although the order was repeatedly blocked by federal judges, Trump tried to forcibly sell TikTok’s branches in the United States last year. Microsoft moved to the negotiating table, but Trump seemed to agree with Oracle and department store Wal-Mart to form a new American company TikTok Global. No more things happened.
Biden is still critical of China. Like Trump, he hopes to increase technological production in the United States to reduce dependence on China.
