In the computer field, there are examples of market participants contacting designers from major car manufacturers. The result of this collaboration is that unusual, eye-catching models almost always appear, such as those we see on Acer-Ferrari or ASUS-Lamborghini laptops.
Recently, AOC, known for its displays, asked the Porsche design team to help manufacture special products. This is how the AOC AGON PD27 was born, which also brings us challenges.
On the outside of the model, it is obvious that this is not a traditional display, because its strange special sole made of metal rods immediately attracted people’s attention. This solution is reminiscent of racing cars, in retrospect, so here you can see the handprints of the Porsche designers. The stand can keep the screen stable, and its height can be moved in increments of 15 cm, and can also be rotated and tilted. This can be easily adjusted to the most comfortable position.
The casing is curved, it is already very eye-catching on its own, its cavities are very thin, and because they are flush with the screen, they are not visible when closed. The curvature is 1000R, which means that it seems to be cut from a circle with a diameter of 1000 mm, so it will produce a certain degree of curvature.
Thanks to HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.4 and USB-A (3.2) and USB-C ports, there are no complaints about output and input. Therefore, it performs very well in terms of connectivity. The bottom of the screen and the top of the stand are also equipped with a pair of nice RGB LEDs. The color and brightness of the light-emitting diodes can also be changed, and they will create darkness around the AOC AGON PD27.
The super appearance provides a good foundation, but if there is a problem with the image quality, everything is worthless. Seeing the preliminary information and official product data, it is conceivable that this is not a problem. The fact is that this is basically a game that takes into account the needs of players, because the panel is not 10-bit but 8-bit, and quantum dots are omitted. Therefore, its performance in color space coverage is not as good as similar products of professional graphic designers. However, based on our measurements, there will be no complaints about color accuracy. In addition, the color tone looks natural and natural.
The maximum image refresh rate is 240 Hz, which is four times that of ordinary displays. That is, the screen can display 240 frames per second, which is very important when reproducing the fast movement of the game. Due to the support of AMD FreeSync technology, the refresh rate can be dynamically changed. As a result, there is no need for annoying stuttering or image distortion. The input delay is only 10.1 milliseconds, which is very important to players, but very important to them. The viewing angle is one of the Achilles’ heels of curved displays, and it is also striking here: around 150 degrees, the colors have faded significantly. However, if someone is sitting across from the screen, there is no problem.
But this also means that AOC AGON PD27 is a “single person” monitor.
The 27-inch display has a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. In this way, it is clearly one of the better displays in this area, so the level of detail is high. The maximum brightness of this model is 550 nits, which is enough for home use on the one hand. On the other hand, high brightness makes the display of so-called HDR content with a special dynamic range particularly eye-catching.
Sound and other additional features
The monitor is different from the TV. The monitor does not have a built-in sound system, but there are some products. And AOC AGON PD27 is one of them. In addition, it is also equipped with a 5-watt hidden speaker, which is much more powerful than ever. As a result, no one complained about the volume, after all, the sound quality was almost okay. Even if the display cannot compete with “regular” external speaker pairs or projectors in this area, the end result is perfectly acceptable. There are no obvious errors or obvious ambiguities. For integrated game or movie shooting, the integrated sound system is also very suitable.
Other features include the target cross, which can be turned on by pressing a button. This is very useful if for some reason this feature is missing in the game.
The “Shadow Control” option (which allows you to control the darkness of the shadows) and the “Low Blue Light” mode are also useful, which can reduce the amount of blue components that interfere with the brain and cause insomnia. Enabling this option will result in poorer image quality, but in return, we can sleep better immediately after using the monitor, which is not the last point.
AOC AGON PD27 enhances the narrow display group with a separate remote control. Moreover, it is a particularly exquisite metal, with exquisite design, and Make it very easy to use.
The design of the menu system and graphical user interface is very unusual and artistic, and it must take some time to get used to it. Unfortunately, it does not communicate in Hungarian, but unfortunately, this is very common in this product line. Otherwise, the system will be stable enough and will not freeze or restart.
Due to the high price of the product, our initial expectations for the product are high because the taste of the product is about 1 million forints. For so much money, people rightly expect to obtain patented quality in this product category. The AOC AGON PD27 is mainly designed for gaming or prestige displays, and it did not disappoint. The image quality is not bad, the handling is very good, thanks to the support of Porsche engineers, its design and appearance are very gorgeous!
