Debswan’s Diamond Company announced the discovery of a 1,098 carat gem-the third largest diamond in the world.
The company showed the diamond discovered on June 1 to President Mokgweetsi Masisi, and it wrote protector.
“We believe this is the third largest diamond in the world. It is a rare and extraordinary gemstone. It brings hope to a country experiencing difficult times,” said Lynette Armstrong, Director of Debswane.
The largest diamond in the world is the 3106 carat Cullinan diamond, which was discovered in South Africa in 1905. The second largest is Lesedi La Rona with 1,109 carats, which was discovered in Northeast Botswana in 2015.
Botswana is Africa’s leading diamond manufacturer.
