Authorities said that on Monday night, an overpass carrying subway vehicles partially collapsed on the road, killing 15 people and wounding 70 others in Mexico City.
A wonderful video broadcast by the local channel Milenio TV showed that a 12-line subway overpass collapsed with trucks hanging on it.
The city’s Risk Management and Civil Defense Bureau said that based on preliminary figures, 15 people were killed and 70 people were injured in the crash.
Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum visited the crash site and wrote on Twitter: “Unfortunately, there are many casualties. Firefighters and public safety personnel are helping. More hospitals are involved. Among them. We will provide more information as soon as possible.”
Other footage on TV and social media showed paramedics and firefighters searching for survivors among the rubble.
When the Minister of Foreign Affairs Marcelo Ebrard was the mayor of Mexico City, he built Line 12 of this subway.
Ebrard wrote on Twitter: “What happened today is a terrible tragedy. My solidarity with the victims and their families.”
The former mayor added: “Of course, the reasons must be investigated and the responsibilities must be determined. I want to reiterate that I can let the authorities assist in solving all the things that are needed.
