The mayor of Moscow said today that there are more aggressive and contagious variants of the new coronavirus in the city, and the situation in Moscow is rapidly deteriorating.
7,704 new cases were recorded in the Russian capital on Sunday, the highest in a single day since December 24. There were 14,723 infections nationwide, which is the highest daily number of infections since February 13.
Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that Friday’s number of cases will exceed 9,000, which is the largest number recorded in Moscow since the beginning of the pandemic. As of the beginning of June in the city, the number of new cases per day was generally less than 3,000.

The head of the consumer protection service also at the meeting said that the number of coronavirus cases attributed to the delta variant was detected for the first time in India and has increased significantly across the country.
