French Minister of Culture Roselyne Bachelot promised on Wednesday that Notre Dame CATHEDRAL was destroyed by fire two years ago and will reopen in 2024.
The Senate Minister said, “So far, 833 million euros have been raised, and the funds raised allow us to peacefully consider reconstruction.”
Roselyne Bachelot added: “I can tell you that Notre Dame de Paris will reopen in 2024.”
The minister will go to the construction site with President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday. The fire partially destroyed the cathedral, a masterpiece of Gothic art.
On the night of April 15, 2019, a fire broke out in Notre Dame Cathedral. The tower collapsed and most of the roof was destroyed, but firefighters still managed to preserve this magnificent medieval building.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, although investigators rejected the idea of intentionally causing the fire. They focus on short circuits or even discarded cigarette butts as possible causes.
The renovation work has not yet started because the building is currently fixed. The project should be completed before the summer so that the real renovation can begin early next year.
The goal is to hold the first official worship service in the restored cathedral on April 15, 2024, despite delays due to the pandemic.
