The military jacket worn by American singer Janet Jackson at the 1990 Rhythm Nation tour was sold at an auction in Beverly Hills last Friday for nearly $503,000. The total price is more than 20 times higher than the pre-auction estimate.
The short black Rhythm Nation jacket with metal fittings is one of the highlights of the three-day stage costume sales, as well as other memories the singer has accumulated over the past 40 years.
This is her first tour as a solo artist.
Julien’s Auctions said the expected price of the jacket is between 25,000 and 37,000 pounds. The customer name is not published.
The five-time Grammy Award winner, when she turned 55 on Sunday, sold more than one thousand outfits she wore on stage, touring, red carpet and music videos.
