Sygic navigation is now officially available in Android Auto as it has been around for a few days It is not limited to Google Maps and Waze. Google finally allows developers to upload apps designed for Android Auto to the Play Store, which is an open road for navigation creators. The first high-profile product in the offer is Sygic-many people have evaluated it in smartphones. I checked on the car screen if it is worth using it.
Sygic is now available on Android Auto earlier, But only as part of the test. Now, you can also use it here without having to decide whether to participate in the Beta program. However, at the beginning, it was a bit complicated, which is a shortcoming problem, which is likely to be eliminated over time. There is a reasonable dilemma about whether the user who opens Sygic on his smartphone will use the navigation on the car’s screen in his own case.
The information given by Sygic is rarely readable. First, after launching the app, a message will appear stating that Android Auto support is now available, but all the advantages of this integration can only be used with a “Premium” subscription. That’s right, but in fact it is mainly about the “Advanced Edition of Android Auto” (the advanced version that is different from the map). It is true that without it, Sygic will appear on the car screen and work normally, but for example, you cannot use 3D maps or hear voice commands, which at least does not work for me.
However, during the test, I can choose to enable the beta version supported by Android Auto to access all options. In this way, I made some routes to evaluate navigation performance and drew some conclusions. However, at the same time, I contacted Sygic to find out whether the functions provided by the Beta version at this stage are consistent with the final version, for which you must pay a fee of less than 175 zloty.
I learned that “everything should be the same”, but for testing purposes, and out of courtesy of the manufacturer, I can also use the regular “Android Auto Premium” package. I confirm-the navigation is exactly the same (with one exception, which will be discussed below), so I definitely recommend it to users who can choose to open the Beta version, and then decide to spend 175 PLN on the final version to release it. This is not worth the risk.
Apart from technical considerations, I am still on the road. At first glance, there is nothing surprising here, but over time, other Sygic features in Android Auto gradually surfaced. Let me start on the positive side: on the positive side, you should include really smooth animations (especially compared to Google Maps), the pleasant voice of the speakers, it will read all commands on time, and omit Quickly recalculate new route exits or curves from time to time, as well as maps that are usually clear and easy to read in terms of color and layout.
When driving, the screen is divided into two parts, one of which displays a fragment of the map, and the other-information about the upcoming maneuvers and the entire route. You can also check the current speed limit on the map. During the test, I did not notice that it was inconsistent with the real one. The time limit for change actually matches what Sygic shows.
Compared to the Google Maps I use every day, Sygic’s way of choosing routes is slightly different. In Google Maps, I noticed that sometimes some alternative routes were invented by force, “just to make some suggestions”, while for Sygica, the situation is the opposite. In some cases, alternative routes did not appear at all. What is particularly interesting is that they are mostly lost when longer routes are involved, and alternative routes are most welcome at this time. This is quite unfavorable. Sygic also does not allow you to browse the map freely; you can only view the current route. unfavorable.
If you want to go somewhere, you can enter the correct address on the keyboard on the car (or smartphone) screen, select one of the “nearby places” or use Google Assistant to specify the address. Although using the keyboard on the car’s radio screen is certainly the most inconvenient of all these options, all of these options worked well in my tests.
At this point, it is worth adding that when the route has been selected and the smartphone is disconnected from the car radio for some reason, after turning on Android Auto again, Sygic will unfortunately not automatically load the unfinished route. For example, Google Maps can do it. However, the previous destination can be easily accessed in the “nearest” location so that you can quickly recalculate the route. However, this will not change the fact that, for example, after returning from a gas station and starting the engine, the destination in the navigation must be reset every time.
Unfortunately, when it comes to navigation, it is not optimistic either. News about upcoming exercises will be read out on time, but as far as I am concerned, they are usually wrong and correct.
These are also surprising errors: for example, the beautiful “lady in the loudspeaker” advises more than once to “take the third street to the left” on a straight road with only one intersection, and maneuver on that road. . I regret to say that this is not a one-off error. Considering that the privilege of listening to voice messages is part of the cost of nearly 175 PLN you have to pay for this, I think this is unacceptable.
Moreover, when I was still using the Beta version of the “Premium for Android Auto” package, I found the misread message I mentioned during the test. When Sygic activated the final version of this review, the voice prompt… completely disappeared. This is not a temporary defect of Android Auto, because at the same time notification, the music player and Google Maps can work normally. The problem was expected-I analyzed all the settings, repeatedly disabled and reinstalled the application, but unfortunately it didn’t work. Sound notification does not work for me.
However, I believe Sygic will make every effort to fix it as soon as possible. In the end, these misfortunes did happen, unless I was an exception to the rule and no more people encountered this problem, it would be resolved soon. After all, it is difficult to accept the problem of this key navigation function, especially because in this case, we are not talking about free functions. However, considering that many Android Auto users are here impatiently waiting to provide navigation services other than Google Maps and Waze, this bad impression still exists and will be remembered for a long time.
