Paris will require motorcyclists to pay parking fees from next year. This is an attempt by the city to reduce noise and pollution.
The city council stated in a statement that starting from January, motorcyclists who do not live in these areas will have to pay 3 euros per hour for parking in the other 11 central districts of the French capital, and 2 euros for arrests in surrounding areas cost of.
The cost is half of the parking fee for a new car.
Electric motorcycles can be parked for free, and people living in the French capital can also pay 22.50 euros for an annual motorcycle ticket.
“A large number of Parisians strongly hope these new regulations,” Deputy Mayor David Bellard told the Daily Parisian newspaper, adding that this will encourage people to buy cleaner, less noisy vehicles.
The plan is part of a strategy to reduce the number of parking spaces in Paris so that these spaces can be used for bicycle lanes, parks and terraces. It aims to reduce traffic and pollution.
