INSTAGRAM began testing a new feature yesterday, which is also available to some Croatians. This is about hiding likes.
Instagram tells users: “Determine how the like tags in the post are displayed.” The notice reads: “From now on, you can hide the number of “likes” in a user’s post, so you can more easily focus on what they share. You can also hide the number of “likes” in the post.”
TechCrunch wrote that Facebook has confirmed that it will start testing similar things on the social network.
Instagram started an experiment to hide likes on a global scale in mid-2019, but there was no choice at the time. The experiment only contained a certain amount of personal data. The company has previously explained that it did so because of the impact on users’ mental health.
They say that deleting favorite pictures can help reduce people’s united efforts to force people to like things that are already popular, instead of judging the content for themselves. However, in the earlier hidden likes announcement, some influencers complained that this may have a negative impact on their business.
