Russia reported 12,505 new coronavirus infections on Friday, the highest daily number of infections since late February, so the total number of infections in the country since the beginning of the pandemic is 5,180,454.
The Russian news agency quoted Mayor Sergey Sobyanin as saying that the capital Moscow expects the peak of infection to occur in June or July.
He emphasized that about half of Moscow’s population is still immune to the coronavirus.
RIA Novosti quoted the mayor as saying: “We think that the peak of the spring pandemic occurred in April or May like last year, but it has actually moved to June and July, and it is very high.
According to TASS news agency, the mayor added in the statement that “the current restrictions in the city will not be strengthened.”
The Government Crisis Headquarters stated that another 396 people died from the coronavirus, bringing the total number of deaths due to covid-19 in the country to 125,674.
On the other hand, the Federal Bureau of Statistics released its data and pointed out that from April 2020 to the same month of 2021, Russia recorded approximately 270,000 covid-19-related deaths.
