Russia’s foreign ministry declared that it had blocked U.S. Vice President Kamala Harir, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and 27 other prominent U.S. figures from entering Russia.

In a statement posted on its website, the ministry claimed that the decision was made in response to “expanding anti Russian Sanctions” by the Biden Administration. It is claiming to target high-ranking executives, public intellectuals, and journalists who are responsible for shaping the “Russianphobic narrative” that dominates American public discourse.

Harris and Zuckerberg are not the only ones who were banned. Also, senior defense and judicial officials, Bank of America CEOs and Bank of America CEOs, prominent diplomatic commentators, and editors of Russia-focused Meduza News Site also included in the ban.

In a statement, the ministry stated that the travel ban will be in effect “permanently” while the sanctions list will be updated “soon” to address “hostile actions” of Western authorities.

Similar restrictions were also imposed on 61 Canadian citizens accused of being the leaders of a “Russian-phobic” policy. Cameron Ahmed, the communications director for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and Steve Boyvin (commander of Canadian Special Operations Forces) were sanctioned.

Russia also closed all consulates of Estonia and Latvia in Estonia and Lithuania in Lithuania on Thursday. All non-Russian staff were expelled in retaliation against similar actions taken by the Baltic states.
