The online supermarket Picnic is building a new fully automated distribution center in Ridderkerk, east of Rotterdam.
It will become the second automated distribution center. The first one is being built in Utrecht and costs between 10 and 150 million euros. A site in Ridderkerk will be expanded to 42,000 square meters and will be put into operation in 2022.
Approximately 300,000 people live in the new location, south of Rotterdam, near Ridderkerk and Barendrecht.
Picnic at Heijplaat under the Maas River west of Rotterdam, Since 2018 A location of about 14,000 square meters. It is not yet clear what will happen to it.
This online supermarket is now the largest online supermarket after AH.nl, with 650,000 customers in more than 125 cities in the Netherlands, and also has operations in Belgium, Germany and France.
Financial Times Count as Picnic’s turnover doubled in 2020 to 500 million euros. It should double again this year.
