It was announced on Sunday that for a decade from 2022, the Miami Grand Prix will become part of the Formula One calendar. The game will be held in the Hard Rock Stadium parking lot in Miami Gardens. The date of next year’s competition has not yet been announced.
Rumors about the Miami Grand Prix have been around for some time. In 2019, an agreement was reached in principle to compete in the coastal city of Florida this year, but this will be a year later.
In 2018, the Grand Prix agreement was reached through the streets of Miami, but many resistance from the business community and local residents prevented this. Now, the game is played on a track that more or less passes through the parking lot of the stadium.
“It’s always fun to drive on a track that has never been seen before,” Max Verstappen responded to his Red Bull team live. “Miami is a great city and I believe they will build a good track there. It always gives you the feeling that everything is possible. Yes, I am very happy that we will drive in Miami.”
Hard Rock Stadium is located in the northern part of the city and is home to the Miami Dolphins of the American football club. Since 2019, it has also been the venue of Miami’s main ATP and WTA tournaments.
For many years, the United States has been the representative of the Formula One calendar, as is the Tour of the Americas in Texas. This season’s competition is scheduled to be held on October 24th.
