NASA announced that this is the first total lunar eclipse in two years: it will be a bloody “super moon” that can be seen in parts of Asia, Australia, the United States and South America.
According to NASA, all interested people will be able to see the so-called bloody super moon due to this lunar eclipse, adding that residents of Hawaii, Alaska, and western states will see it most clearly in the United States .
CBS wrote that the bloody moon usually appears during a total lunar eclipse, that is, the moment when the earth is directly between the moon and the sun, so that the moon hides from the sun, and is called “bloody” because of its red light.
“When this happens, the only light that reaches the surface of the moon at that moment will pass through the edge of the earth’s atmosphere. Air molecules from the earth’s atmosphere scatter most of the blue light, and the rest of the light is reflected to the surface of the moon, NASA scientists explained.
NASA says the consequence of such an event is a “halo” around the moon, but astronomers cannot yet predict the extent of its reddening because it may be affected by atmospheric dust.
The May Super Moon is one of the three super moons this year, and will be the largest of them. When the moon looks larger than usual, a super moon appears because it is closest to the earth.
This year’s “May Super Moon” is also called “Flower Fragrance”, its name is due to the fact that May is usually full of flowers on the earth.
The solar eclipse itself will last about 14 minutes, and the entire event will last about five hours, from 8.47 to 13.49 UTC, which means they will be able to be seen in the early morning in the evening in Asia and the United States.
For those who cannot see the eclipse with the naked eye, we organized a virtual telescope projection.
