Mike Elliott is the new technical director of the Mercedes Formula One team. The British took over the top spot from compatriot James Allison, who has been the technical head of the German racing team since early 2017.
Allison will assume a new role at Mercedes and will carry out more activities in the background. Allison said on Friday: “I firmly believe that senior positions in this sport have expiration dates.”
Under his rule, Mercedes only won the world championship. “I chose to resign as technical director so that I can pass the baton in due course.”
Elliott has worked at McLaren and Renault, but has been at Mercedes since 2012. He was the head of aerodynamics for the team of world champions Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.
The British said: “Being a member of this team is an incredible privilege.” The British will work closely with Toto Wolff, who has been the leader of the senior team for many years.
Last month, Mercedes started a new Formula One season and defeated Hamilton at the Bahrain Grand Prix. In the exciting battle, the player who won the world championship seven times was slightly better than Max Verstappen.
