Alemka Markotic, director of the Zagreb Infectious Disease Clinic, spoke about the new variant of the coronavirus at a press conference at the headquarters today.
“We are worried about new variants. Indian variants are entering the unvaccinated population, mainly in the UK. The situation is quite worrying and they are doing everything they can to avoid major consequences. The European position is that this variant attacks vulnerable parts and more The young part, so “really should be careful. In most countries, the infection rate of the Indian variant has climbed to 3%, so it needs attention. It’s not the happiest thing to hear, we have two reports that are still being processed,” Markotic said.
“The epidemic in Finland occurred in two wards of a hospital. 57 people became ill, 17 died, 41 received one dose, and the rest received two doses. The vaccinated employees were also infected, but no one was seriously ill. It was an elderly man in Belgium. A similar situation occurred in the hospital, where 60 to 70 wards were sick, 11 people died, and were vaccinated, but there were many comorbidities… 10 to 15 staff members were infected. Received one dose, gave up the other , That’s not good…” Markotic added.
“The point is that young people should be vaccinated because the virus is spreading among them. Many countries are preparing to vaccinate children between 12 and 16 years old. Pfizer is approved and will be in the summer and modern period or at the end,” said the person in charge of infectious diseases .
“Portugal reported that they have no other variants, but they are spreading the Delta strain. In Spain, there was an infection in the beauty contest and the Delta strain was spreading. The situation in Italy is fairly stable. In central Italy, they noticed an increase in the Brazilian variant. The situation is improving, but it is believed that the pandemic is over…the vaccine should be vaccinated as soon as possible, and the dosage and basic protection measures should still be observed.”
