BMW: Electrification and production plan i4
BMW has shared its development plan for the next ten years and has declassified the serial i4 electric vehicle.
The main goal of the Bavarians’ concern is the gradual transition to electric vehicles. But BMW is not in a hurry to abandon the internal combustion engine altogether. By 2030, only half of the cars sold by the company will have electric drives. At the same time, by 2023, the model series will include 13 electric vehicles, which will cover all market segments.
The Neue Klasse (“New Category”) model series is scheduled to debut in 2025. The name is a reference to the BMW 1500/1600/1800/2000 series of mid-size sedans that have been very successful since the 1960s and laid the foundation for all subsequent models of the brand. The upcoming “new class” will also mark a turning point in BMW’s history. So far, all the known information about these models is that they were developed on a new platform with the most advanced technological solutions.
The Mini brand will be fully electric after 2025. Rolls-Royce will also be electrified.
As for the series version of the electric hatchback BMW i4, it has not yet been fully decrypted. There are currently no indoor pictures or technical details.
It turns out that the “commercial” i4 is an electric version of the usual BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, and its appearance is not out of reach in the current “four-door”. In the new product about 4.7 m long, we noticed recessed door handles and original 19-inch wheels-all of which are designed to reduce air resistance.
Among other things, the i4 will have a powerful M Performance version with a return of about 530 hp, which will accelerate to 100 km/h in about 4 seconds. In the WLTP cycle, the longest-distance version can travel 590 kilometers on a single charge.
The BMW i4 will go on sale before the end of this year.
Audi without internal combustion engine
According to the interview with the head of Audi Markus Düsmann on the German version of “Auto World”, the company has stopped developing new internal combustion engines.
This means that there will be no next-generation Audi gasoline and diesel engines, although the existing engines will continue to be upgraded.
Give priority to electric vehicles. So far, in the “four ring” series, there are only two such models (e-tron crossover and the latest e-tron GT sedan), but the compact crossover Q4 e-tron is about to come out, which later became “Main models” “Homes including A6/A7 will be switched to electricity…. Earlier, the company announced a full transition to electric vehicles by 2035.
