James Michael Taylor, the actor who played Gunther in Friends, revealed that he has been battling prostate cancer for three years and was diagnosed with stage 4.
“Sorry, I did not announce with you today that I will be making a film about Friends. In fact, I am here to let you know that in September 2018, I was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, which has spread to My bones are gone.” The 59-year-old actor said as a guest on the Today Show.
Cancer was found during a routine physical examination, and it is already in the fourth stage. Actors can no longer walk, can only sit in wheelchairs. In the recently aired “Friends” special program, he appeared in front of the public, but decided not to share his diagnosis information during this period.
“I don’t want to say,’Oh, by the way, Gunther has cancer,’ do you know what I mean?” He explained, noting that he was sure that the actors knew about his illness now.
“David Schwimmer communicated with me via Instagram. The producers knew about it a long time ago,” he said.
Taylor regretted not listening to his wife Jennifer Cano and not being tested.
“If I check in earlier, I will notice him sooner,” he said, tears in his eyes.
He also urged viewers to comment regularly.
Now, the actor has only one goal for the rest of his life.
“My goal last year was to experience my 59th birthday. I did it. My goal now is to help save at least one life,” Gunther concluded.
