The US Department of Justice has concluded its criminal investigation of Donald Trump’s former security adviser John Bolton. Bolton’s lawyer said so. The former security adviser is accused of sharing confidential information about his 17 months in the White House in his book. The civil lawsuit to recover the proceeds of the book has also been dismissed.
In the book, Bolton criticized Trump last year. According to the former security adviser, the then president put his own interests above national interests. The Trump administration tried to prevent the publication of the publication, but was unsuccessful. He then tried to recover the money Bolton made from the book through a civil lawsuit. Bolton’s lawyer said the case has now been closed.
In addition, since September, Bolton has been under criminal investigation for whether he handled confidential information carelessly. That investigation is also over.
The defense lawyer said in a statement that by ending the proceedings without sanctioning Bolton or recovering funds, the Justice Department has actually admitted that “the actions of President Trump and the White House in this case are illegal.” A Bolton spokesperson called the ministry’s decision a “complete victory” for the former security adviser.
