RTL is undergoing a major reorganization of its product portfolio, with French M6 previously sold to TF1. The company originally came from Luxembourg and once started with radio, hoping to focus on the German market. These days, RTL is showing a new identity there.
DPG Media is the group behind Het Parool, AD, Volkskrant and NU.nl, and in Belgium it is the group behind VTM, HLN and Qmusic. Rossel not only publishes Le Soir, but also a series of regional newspapers.
The two media groups have worked together before. For a while, they were joint shareholders of Mediafin, the publisher of De Tijd and L’Echo. The Belgian offer will be between 20 and 250 million euros.
The Belgian RTL subsidiary includes TV channels RTL-TVi, Club RTL and Plug RTL, and radio stations Bel RTL, Radio Contact and Mint. Streaming media service RTL Play and news website RTLInfo.be are also part of it.
