The Economic and Social Council’s opinions of the Republican Party have been severely criticized. The main complaint is the lack of attention to social issues affecting the country due to the pandemic.
The Economic and Social Council (CES) at the end of the plenary meeting on Tuesday approved the opinion on the major options for the 2021-2025 plan, which included many criticisms and suggestions on the government’s proposal. Considering that some of the proposed amendments were not unanimously agreed, but the opinions were discussed for several hours, but according to a member present at the meeting, the document has been generally approved with a number of abstentions, CGTP objected to this.
ESC believes that when it is necessary to ensure social protection for everyone during a pandemic, the lack of a comprehensive social security method in the plan’s “Great Choice” (GOP) is serious.
Taking into account the situation of the pandemic crisis and its economic and social impact, the ESC emphasized the importance of appropriate policies to promote employment and social cohesion, and clarified appropriate national policies through existing Community instruments.
In the document approved by the plenary, the Council noted the adaptability of the NHS and its efforts in responding to the pandemic, but at the same time recognized the weaknesses demonstrated and exacerbated by the Portuguese pandemic and their impact on health and population morbidity. .
Therefore, ESC proposes to establish a process to monitor the implementation of the measures specified in the GOP and introduce the results of such monitoring in the GOP in the next few years.
The council criticized that in the tax field, the only content mentioned in the Republican Party involved green taxation within the scope of the climate transition agenda and resource sustainability. He believes that a more hypothetical policy should be formulated on the price of work as a decisive and horizontal element of economic development in order to promote a more equitable distribution of wealth and improve people’s living conditions.
For CES, in the process of improving the competitiveness of enterprises, especially in the context of the covid-19 pandemic, it is also crucial to promote the capitalization of companies in economic and financial difficulties.
