The leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekao, is dead, the West African terrorist organization Islamic State (ISWAP) said in a recording owned by Reuters.
According to the recording, Shekau detonated himself while being hunted by ISWAP. Reuters sources confirmed that the recording was not forgery. ISWAP has split from Boko Haram.

Kidnapping and assault
Under Xie Kao’s leadership, Boko Haram kidnapped more than 200 Nigerian female students in 2014. The terrorist organization also claimed that it kidnapped 300 students from a men’s boarding school in northwestern Nigeria last year.
In addition, there have been multiple attacks in Cameroon, Chad and Niger. In recent years, Boko Haram’s struggle to establish a state based on Sharia law has claimed 30,000 lives.
