In recent days, at least 80 dolphins and a large number of fish have died on the beach near the capital of Ghana, Accra, and the authorities have since launched an investigation.
The cause of death is unclear. Experts from the Fisheries Commission collected fish and water samples from Osu Castle Beach in Accra. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said it is inspecting the fish market to determine that it may not have been sold by dolphins.
The head of the Fisheries Committee, Michael Arthur-Dadzie, told Reuters 80 to 100 dead dolphins were found.
