A White House official said on Saturday that US President Joe Biden will hold an independent press conference after meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin next week because this is the most appropriate form of clear communication with the “free media.”
Biden will meet Putin on June 16 at an 18th-century Swiss villa overlooking Lake Geneva. During the summit, the two leaders will discuss strategically important nuclear stability and the deteriorating relationship between the Kremlin and the West.
“We hope this meeting will be honest and direct,” a White House official said.
The official said: “An independent press conference is an appropriate form of clear communication with the free media on the topics that will be raised at the conference-whether in areas where we can reach agreement or in areas of greater concern.”
