Slovenian Tamara Zidansek (23 years old) reached the semifinals of the French Open Grand Slam, defeating Spaniard Paul Bados 7:5, 4:6, 8:6.
Zidansek became the second Slovenian to reach the semi-finals of the Grand Slam. Earlier, Mima Josovets won the French Open in 1977.
The confrontation between the two Grand Slam quarterfinals rookies was full of waves. The world ranked No. 85 Zidansek led 1-0, leading 4:2 in the second game, but then the world ranked No. 35 Bados player won six consecutive games.
Former competitive skier Zidan Sek saved three broken goals 6:6 in the third set, and then used the ball in the second game to achieve the biggest success of her career.
The Slovenian will compete in the semifinals with the better player in the duel between Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina and the experienced Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
