Achille Lauro released a new real album “Lauro”. From the beginning of his career, his work has explored different vocal sensitivities and spanned various themes, and solved the problems he has become symbolic in recent years, such as the struggle with toxic masculinity.
In 2018, Achille Lauro released “Pour ama”, an album that somehow told the evolution that the Roman artist should have taken. The inside of this album is the seed of the versatility he will face in the future in terms of sound and image. On the cover of the album and on the cover of “Blue Angel” (but actually told the truth in “Ragazzi Madre”), everything you should know about his thoughts about toxic masculinity. After that album, three people analyzed different genres and different periods. With the appearance of the album “Lauro” released today, the singer has returned and created an album with various souls and faces. In fact, there are not only various references (from the prince to Vasco Rossi), usually photography and popular quotations, but also the works use different directions, bringing true stories (“Marilù”) It alternates with other stories composed of images (“Marilù”) (“Generation X”). In recent years, some people have been shocked, but the final impression is that Lauro is just an artist who is constantly sabotaging himself in search of new paths. He deconstructed the toxic masculinity ideas he lived in, broke the ways that might allow him to retain the audience, and broke the rules of music and writing. We like it, but it’s a detail, because after all, people who deal with this kind of material called certain works of art will eventually become dirty and disagree. We discussed more with Lauro.
For you, Pour amour is also a groundbreaking album. In Lauro, as was the case there, there is an important style change. In hindsight, we learned that that was the seed of your new path. Was it the same for Lauro? Do you have any ideas?
I write a lot of music, if I have nothing to say, I write nothing, otherwise I wrote 15 songs in three days. I still have a lot of songs. By 2020, I decided to release these sub-albums, starting with a real album “1969”, and then his sons “1990” and “1920”: they are both night action albums, with the biggest Was born spontaneously. Lauro starts again from my true mood. They are my songs, my poems, some are almost written without music and then arranged, while others are on the zigzag guitar Written below. As far as sound is concerned, it is divided into two main macro areas, as well as feelings: the introspective one is just a storm of the soul, and the other is the trash of punk rock, where it can take root.
Let’s take a closer look, but there are things that go beyond these types, right?
Broadly speaking, we find many shadows because they are part of the shadows of my character. My music starts from there, so yes, it is connected to “Pour l’Amour” to some extent, even if my character has a shadow, it is sometimes an electronic music album, but also works with composers: there is “Pour l’Amour” “But there are “blue angels.” In Lauro’s book, all the meanings are reflected, first of all because we have a second chance. The red “O” seems to be over, but I decided to seize it again. Then, in association with each letter, I introduced a genre of music during my stay in San Remo: gorgeous rock, rock, pop (understood as pop), punk rock and classical orchestras, their names are Lauro (Lauro), and painted my path.
You are talking about two main macro areas, and I have also seen their written form, including songs-I am thinking about Marilù-written as a more linear story, while the others are composed of images-I am thinking about Generation X-we can still see Has it reached this mode?
The most important thing is that my music comes from the nuances of the characters: one day, one month, how many emotions do we experience in our lifetime? How many personalities do we have? Do you wake up one day in one way and another day in another way? I just stop those moments.
In fact, in Lauro, you are a little Vasco, a little prince, of course you are Lauro…
I think that in the end everyone is the crystallization of life, and music works are the centrifuge of everything. Not only music references, but also speeches, what we are saying to each other now is that inspiration is everywhere and all-encompassing.
In the song “Lauro”, you can trace your story: “I chose the stars” (“I chose the stars” in Immortale), “Dio c’is” (the second album), “I know you don’t care “, “A casa da Sandro”, “Barabbas”, “Pour ama”, “Rolls Royce”. What is your job?
Jump into nothingness every day, but this is correct. In fact, if they ask me if I am willing to do everything I do, I will answer yes, indeed, I will encourage people to jump into nothingness. However, when urban fashion became popular, I was already an outsider, and now I have worn fashionable tights and tops and shoulder bags, but before that was the son of my teenage son who lived in the outskirts of Rome. With the development of the city, I jumped into a world to be explored, and then when I became the spokesperson of that world, I did Pour ama, which is a kind of intersection between electronic music, samba and traps. When we got bigger, I said: “Gentlemen, I’m going to San Remo” and people told me I was uncomfortable. Not only did I go to Sanremo, but I also brought “Rolls Royce” to do it. So it has always been. In the second year with me, when I said I wanted to wear a wig, they told me if they hadn’t kicked me out before that year.
These are things you’ve done even before, and then Sanremo does magnify everything, and the way it exists and appears seems almost shameful. How do you experience this dichotomy between those who criticize you and those who praise you as the bearer of inclusive information?
I could have kept the listeners three and a half years ago, merge them, expand them, etc., but I am not afraid of losing the listeners, not afraid of tomorrow, everything will end, I don’t care about the disco ball and the bottle opening meaning, I only bring mine idea. As for Sanremo’s brackets, I did what I always did, made a dress for this song, always keeping coherence and self, because in my music the sound has changed, but the soul is always the same, I always talk about To who I am. At that moment.
How does the story change with popularity?
When I signed a major recording contract, I moved to Milan, and I started sitting with multinational companies, no longer talking about the bench, but about “I want a life like this”. I can talk about my world, it’s the outer world, I still live, but from another perspective, the “only us” world, that is, our generation is out of control, but I’m always the same, I’m very happy that someone can I think there are more, because this is the case, there is a message behind the performance, and there are more explanations. Of course there are pastimes, fun, I don’t care.
One of the themes that you have become one of the signs is the contrast with the toxic masculinity themes of “female” and beyond. I think if you live in certain environments, it’s complicated to deal with. What does it feel like to be a symbol?
I grew up in such an environment and actually lacked the cultural basis to deliver a speech that should be delivered in 2022, namely human rights, to leave room for everyone, the freedom to accept and deal with diversity, and then there is to solve the problem of diversity. Necessary conditions. For me, even talking about diversity today is untimely. Unfortunately, sometimes in the suburbs you are sometimes neglected, the culture is nowhere to be found, and there is no education, so all these dynamic factors come into being. I am very happy to be the spokesperson of that world, but try to insert a new theme: I am a victim and that child of that world, so I am also a little allergic to that subtle difference in the world. I love the suburbs, I love Rome, and I love hiding in abandoned poetry. It is the sincerity of the people, but like everything, there is a negative side.
It is not easy to stand up on these issues. For a popular artist, it also means being insulted, right?
But the insult is there, it is the weight of success. We must be smart and don’t place emphasis on things from the outside. Of course, if the criticism is constructive, it must be analyzed, but there must still be a very clear vision. Going back to “female”, the beauty of this song is that it analyzes a very common role nuance, the idea of pursuing men at all costs, which needs to be hidden in vitality…
Another interesting thing is that you are talking about Gen X, but you are talking to Gen Z. Gen Z may be different from us, it discusses it in a different way than mine, and it’s not realized in every sense. The idea of gender disorder.
I think we are in an important transitional period for mankind. We are moving towards an ecologically sustainable world. In this world, we must first consider human rights and move towards the idea that there is no music genre and no offense to others. In other cultures, I think today’s children have been integrated into this mechanism, so I am full of confidence in the future.
Tell me, if you want, do all these religious references run through your art, sometimes even in an anti-traditional way?
In my opinion, visual expression is very important, because the image represents Italy, a country based on this form of expression, something mysterious, dreamlike, and we all know that it is closely intertwined with popular culture: Madonna, Saint Francesco, they are symbols. Conceptually, these elements represent a strong meaning and at the same time a sense of mystery. It undoubtedly connects everyone with popular music. Therefore, I am a person who grew up and grew up in Christianity. Although I do not believe in ordinary religions, I am convinced that it is also a part of me and a representative I believe in. I always put God in the middle of the text, because in any case, for me, the mystery of a life is a character that we don’t know but exists. It is real, both visually and creatively. in this way.
In short, can we say that one of your characteristics is to question all the given certainties and make them artistic?
Questioning everything is the basis of my artistic expression.
